College dorms are more than just places to sleep at night. From the first dorms of the Florida State College to the student housing of today, student residents and university administrators used the dorms to negotiate the boundaries of social life and learning at Florida State University.
In Spring of 2020, graduate students in HIS 6087 researched, wrote, and created on paper a plan for an exhibit on the history of FSU's residential housing titled "Living Spaces: Negotiating Authority in FSU Dorms." Then, Covid-19 altered their plans. In the Spring of 2022, three students still on campus installed a modified exhibit.
The students worked with FSU's Heritage & University Archives to make this happen.
